SUNDAY IN SALTILLO (or, horror in my backyard!)

The Beaver-Seal

So I am wandering outside, looking at the sunrise, and I stroll over the bridge at the pond. I see something so horrifying, I can only gasp in shock!!!!

A BIG creature.  The size of a medium dog.  It has the face of a seal.  It stares at me while doing a backstroke down the pool.  I am standing there in my nightie with my mouth hanging open...frozen!  I spend a great deal of time looking at my pond and have never seen a seal-faced animal flipping and swimming and confidently taking a water-stroll up and down my pond.  WTF?

I stand and stare at him, for 10 minutes, and his amazing adeptness and slinkiness with swim capabilities.  He just stares back at me while contorting his body into different swimming positions.  He's proud of his abilities.  He wants me to see what all he can do.  Backstroke, dive, head stand, butterfly stroke.  He is guru of them all.

Being of the "digital age" I run in the house and get my camera. When I get back outside, he is no longer showing his body and mastery of the water.  He is far at the end of the pond, with only his face peeking out.  He takes a dive...gone!  Dang.

I run in the house screaming at my husband, "There's a beaver-seal in our pool!"  He says, "It's an otter."  He is not excited in the least.  The most amazing natural encounter I've ever had, and he just wants his coffee.  I looked it up.  The beaver-seal will eat all my fish.  Dang.  The circle of life.

I did not take this pic.  But you can see exactly why I confused him with a beaver-seal.  The similarities are astounding!

The Rest of the Day

I am going to spend today cooking beans, cornbread and bar-b-que.  I am going to write some on the two books I turned in to my agent.  I have chapters I need to add, and today is the day!  How lucky am I?  I get to spend this entire day doing whatever I want.  Man, life is good!

I have had 2 book signings for Essential Oils for Healing since I last blogged.  One was at the Bookworm Box in Sulphur Springs and the other was at Star Dragonfly Herb Co. in Winnsboro.  Both of them were so much fun and we had a great time.  Thanks to everyone who came to support us.  Any other bookstores or herb shops need an author?  I'm free!  Call me... I find I LOVE doing this.

DEPRESSION SUCKS!

THE SUCKINESS OF HAVING A FAMILY MEMBER WITH DEPRESSION:

We do what we can to keep happy and positive

No one wants it, or needs it, so depression, be gone from my life!  If only it was that easy to rid yourself of depression.  Well, it can be!  Depression has been a huge factor in many of my family member's lives.  Some practically live for their medications and pharmaceuticals.  Others take a more active and holistic approach by incorporating herbal teas, yoga, essential oils and home remedies into their lives.  It's easy looking in from the outside and to tell the person to just "get happy!"  But when you are yourself suffering from a bout of depression (and we all have...) you understand that it's just not that easy.  In fact, it's almost impossible.

WHICH OILS WORK BEST?

Essential oils have been helping people change the thought processes in their brains for thousands of years.  It seems we in the West are just now catching up.  Here is a recipe that uses some of the essential oils that work on ending depression.  Put some of these essential oils in the bath.  Mix some with olive oil and rub it on your feet.  Mix some essential oils with cornstarch and make a powder for your sheets and pillow cases.  Add a few drops to your laundry.  Tons of recipes are available that show you how to use the following antidepressant containing oils:

vetiver, neroli, petitgrain, sandalwood, yang-ylang, bergamot, orange, clary sage, cypress, cedar wood, geranium, rose (I wish I could afford this one!!!), lemon, marjoram, frankincense, lime, melissa (this one too!!!!), tea tree, patchouli, wild orange, rosemary, basil, cinnamon and all spice essential oils.

I will show you how easy it is to incorporate any of these oils you want into a spray to be used for depression, sadness, grief or sorrow.  These uplifting oils have the properties you need to GET HAPPY!

2 of nature's depression lifters: bergamot and basil

RECIPE FOR DEPRESSION SPRAY

It may not seem possible that a spray can take away your depression, but this recipe has helped many people move on to a fuller and happier lifestyle.  This blend has also made aromatherapy believers out of quite a few skeptics.  This spray is chock full of nervine, antidepressant, euphoric and sedative therapeutic properties.  Spray this on your body, in your office, car, home, etc.  Use it around Mr. Negativity and watch his mood turn around!  It's easy and keeps for months.

Yield: 2 Ounces

2 drops neroli oil
2 drops patchouli oil
2 drops basil oil
2 drops bergamot oil
2 drops vitamin E oil
1 teaspoon witch hazel
2 ounces water

Combine ingredients into a spray bottle (or a roll-on bottle for personal usage), shake well before each use.  Spray area desired, or spray on self, laundry, bed or a multitude of areas where you or others can come into contact with the aromas.  Store remainder in a spray bottle with a tight fitting lid in a cool, dark area for up to 3 months.

What's Your Secret Weapon Giveaway

Secret Weapon: Lemongrass

This is my secret weapon: Lemongrass.  I an in love with this essential oil.  I would eat it and wear it as clothing if I could.  I would marry lemongrass if it would have me.

Lemongrass grows easily in Texas, if watered enough.  Just walking up to my lemongrass, pulling a leaf, inhaling its scent and rubbing it on my body is a surreal experience.  Lemongrass not only smells heavenly, but it has so many therapeutic properties:
Antioxidant, stomachic, sedative, fever reducer, anti-inflammatory, nervine and immune booster, as well as many other properties.

Knowing my personality, as a flighty, ADHD, type A personality, it would only be natural that someone like me loves the smell of lemongrass.  But I doused myself in it for 2 years before realizing that the nervine and sedative properties in lemongrass are exactly what my body needed to calm down and focus.  I always felt like I couldn't concentrate enough to write, until I put on my little roll-on bottle of lemongrass and grape seed oil.

It is so funny how when using essential oils, we are drawn to the properties that we need.  It's almost like when you are pregnant and you start craving a certain food, it's because those are the nutritional needs your body instinctually knows it needs.  So when you find yourself using an essential oil almost exclusively, look up those properties.  You will probably find something in that particular oil that is helping you without you even knowing it!

Nature's Gift Lemongrass

Lemongrass oil not only makes me feel great, it has a tummy soother component that quickly can dispel feelings of nausea. This rub recipe, directly from my book, Essential Oils for Healing, is an easy remedy and can be made ahead of time and stored for when needed.  This is a sure bet for an item in your medicine cabinet or to include in your first aid kit.

Tummy Rub

2 drops peppermint oil
2 drops clary sage oil
2 drops lemongrass oil
1 ounce carrier oil

In a small container, drip the essential oils.  Pour in the carrier oil and swirl to mix the oils.  Rub the abdomen area lightly with your fingertips or a soft cloth to ensure that the essential oils are distributed over the skin.  You can also pour it into a roll-on bottle and roll onto the desired area.  Be sure not to get any into the eyes, mucus membranes or sensitive areas.  Store unused portion in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, in a cool, dark area, for up to 3 months.

So the next time you can't focus, have a fever, feel nauseas or just plain need a great smelling oil to diffuse, use lemongrass.  I equate lemongrass with the word "peace."  Peaceful soul, peaceful health, and peaceful energy.

Giveaway!!!!!!!!!

So what's your secret weapon?  I will give away one Essential Oils for Healing book to someone out of the comments below.  The drawing will be held next Monday on 7/18/16 and I will post the winners on my Facebook author page.  What do you have to do to get your name into this amazing drawing?  Comment below with your favorite essential oil and use one word to describe what that oil means to you!

GIVE-A-WAYS! 3 WINNERS AND A PEPPER!

Give-A-Way! 3 WINNERS and a pepper

In honor of almost completing my next 2 books, I'm having a massive give-a-way! For the past YEAR AND A HALF I have been working on 2 more books.  Alternative Remedies and Essential Oils for emotions.  They are awesome and contain almost 1000 recipes for new conditions.  It has been days of bliss followed by days of pure torture.  Sometimes I just quit, and other times I couldn't stop.  The emotions when trying to complete projects of this magnitude are pure joy followed by emotions of everything sucks!  But in the end, it's all worth it to me.  Whether I ever sell a copy or not, I have these books.  I did it!  And I love them with all of my heart.

Yay!  It was a lot of hard work, but fun (okay, and agonizing as well!) and I learned so much about various medical treatments from around the world.  Some of the stuff I read was crazy!  Maybe that's what my next book should be about..."Insane treatments from all cultures...Don't try this at home!"

Crap! My husband is hungry.  I gotta go cook something half way edible.  Hey, if you live in Saltillo, and you ever need eggs...just come on by.  I have 18 chickens and almost all of them lay every day.  I am drowning in eggs.  And my friends and family are tired of me giving them eggs every time they come over.  So come and get some.  They're FREE!

Give Aways

I'm going to have a few give-a-ways to celebrate so much in my life (not this pepper, it's my supper!): My first book will be released by St. Martin's Press in a few weeks, Essential Oils for Healing (Over 400 All-Natural Recipes for Everyday Ailments),  I have a book signing coming up (July 16th @ Bookworm Box, Sulphur Springs, Tx.) , the almost completion of my next 2 books and the fact that I am getting a LOT of vegetables out of my garden:

These are my favorite peppers in the world.  I planted them, but have no idea what they are called.

They are not hot, but they are so tender.  I eat about 3 of them every night.  Sometimes I pick them way too young because I can't wait till they are grown enough.  Ugh!

GIVE-A-WAYS!!!!

FIRST PLACE PRIZE

First name drawn will win a copy of my new book "Essential Oils for Healing."  It comes out in a few weeks, but one lucky winner will get an early copy.  I hope its YOU!

2nd place prize

2nd place winner will get a bottle of peppermint essential oil.  Peppermint is so healing and has a million uses.  Did you know peppermint is in the top 5 essential oils that have the most amazing therapeutic properties?  Peppermint contains analgesic, anesthetic, anti fungal, anti infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, anti-galactogogue, anti-phlogistic, antispasmodic, astringent, carminative, cephalic, cholagogue, cordial, decongestant, digestive, and tons of other agents to provide you with all sorts of healing components.  Win this bottle!

3rd Place Prize

I just got these little roll-on bottles the other day.  They are really beautiful and come with metal roller balls.  I'm giving one of these to a lucky winner!

So there it is.  3 prizes up for grabs.  Just follow this blog and like this post.  Comment with which one you hope to win!  Drawing will be next week and I hope you get lucky!  My grandchildren will draw the names.  Good Luck!

And remember to pre-order this great book that has hundreds of easy essential oil recipes for everyday ailments.

Much Healing to You,

THE END, VAP-O-RUB, THE FUTURE, 1 MONTH AND FREE STUFF!

GIVE-A-WAY & THE END

So this is kind of a sad month for us at Earth's Healing Boxes.  We had to close our doors due to some unexpected family news and an unexpected future.  Shit surely does happen.  But the good news is that we have several boxes left from the last few months.  So we are having a Give-A-Way featuring 3 of our boxes, and the winners will be chosen June 6th at 9pm (tomorrow!).  All you have to do to be eligible to win is tag a friend in the comments below and follow or subscribe to this blog.

And here is the GREAT news!  Your friend will get a box too!  So we are giving away 6 of our past Earth's Healing Boxes.  They include 3 full sized essential oils, recipes, an essential oil blend, and aromatherapy tools or jewelry!  We love all of you who subscribed to our boxes, and will miss you greatly.  Here is your chance to win one for a friend!

VAP-O-RUB RECIPE

I've been in the kitchen today making up 17 jars of vap-o-rub to give away at my book signing on July 16th.  Can you believe that all of our mothers used essential oils on everyone of us and they didn't know it?  We were all slathered with vap-o-rub at one time or another in our childhoods.  Well, I found the recipe today and made a bunch.  And you guessed it!  Almond oil, beeswax and a ton of essential oils.  So the next time your relatives tell you that essential oils are hog wash, remind them that they are the ones who used it and wholeheartedly believed in the healing powers of essential oils by using vap-o-rub on you as a child.

17 cute little jars!
VAP-O-RUB
1 cup olive or almond oil
25 drops eucalyptus oil
25 drops peppermint oil
15 drops rosemary oil
15 drops clove oil
10 drops vitamin E oil
2 tablespoons beeswax pellets

Heat the 1 cup of oil in the microwave along with the beeswax.  When almost melted, remove from heat and stir until beeswax is completely melted.  Drop a drop of the mixture onto the counter and blow for 30 seconds.  Run your finger through the drop and if it is too thin, add more beeswax and stir.  If it is too thick, add more oil and stir.
When it cools slightly, before the mixture begins to harden add the essential oils and the beeswax.  Pour into glass or metal jars and leave open for several hours.  When completely cool, tighten the lid on and label.  Store in a cool, dark area for up to one year.

ONE MONTH

YES, it's only one month away until the best day EVER!  The release of our book, Essential Oils for Healing, Over 400 All-Natural Recipes for Everyday Ailments is just about to happen on July 5th.  And I'm so stoked I'm about to explode.  One month!  This has been a very, long and slow process.  I'm so thankful for all of you who pre-ordered.  I'm so happy and grateful and hope you're as excited as I am about this easy to follow, recipe book for healing.

SO PRETTY

Make sure to mark your calendars for July 16th @ 2:00 for this book signing event at 204 Main St. Sulphur Springs Tx @ The Bookworm Box.  We will have lots of free goodies, and books to purchase if you don't order one from Amazon before then.  If you do order a book, bring it and we will all sign it for you.  I'm so excited to see everyone there.

Remember to tag a friend and subscribe to this blog for your chance to win some free essential oils and stuff.
Much healing to you,
vannoy

We can't wait to see you all <3

THE JOY OF SPRING

Pineapple Sage

Nothing makes me happier than my herb garden.  This pineapple sage is so pleasant and aromatic.  The flowers are beautiful to look at and I love a sprig of this in my tea.  The bees are attracted to this plant and the butterflies too!

The days are beginning to turn hotter here in Texas and that means I will now have to water my plants of veggies and herbs due to the extreme droughts that we get.  But watering plants in the cool morning is a very zen way to begin my days.

Curly Parsley

Parsley is so full of vitamins and minerals.  People think of parsley as just a garnish to make a plate pop.  But I think of parsley as a little energy bonus when diced and added to salads, fish and vegetables.  Its so easy to grow here, and it loves the shade and water.  I just stick it under a tree and forget about it for the most part.  Then every time I need some, its so HUGE.

Eggplant

This is the first eggplant I've ever grown.  I didn't intend to grow eggplant.  The little tab in the pot said that it was cucumber.  I thought it was prettier than all the other cucumbers, so I bought it.  Well, I sure was surprised when the stem grew up purple and then this little gem grew out of it.  Buddy, you are gonna be so yummy on the grill!  A little garlic! Heaven.

Growing your own food is such a satisfying feeling, but growing your own medicine is my ultimate goal.  I grow, harvest, dry and produce tons of medicine from my herbs.  I have had several people in the last week come by my home asking for tinctures, decoctions and recipes for sunburn, poison ivy, carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis.  It's so easy, and cheap!  But at the same time, very, very effective.

Don't hesitate to buy yourself a little pot of chamomile, basil or lavender.  You'd be surprised what all you can do with your little plant.  And if you ever need any help...I'm right here.
much healing to you,

Please, God, make it stop!

OW!
Sunburns are the worst!  Everything rubbing your skin, touching your skin or even looking at your skin hurts.  You forget and scratch it and WOW!  The pain...the pain!  Lots of people around here are opening their pools, mowing their lawns, gardening, baling hay and every outdoor activity imaginable to get ready for summer.  No one thinks about the sun, because the wind is blowing, the air feels fine, and we are not covered in sweat yet!  But then before you know it...YOU ARE RED!  Try some easy to make home remedies, essential oil blends, Ayurvedic treatments or herbal concoctions to help heal that sunburn.
Even Mala wants to swim!

Essential Oils
There are many recipes that will help your sunburn to heal.  This is a spray that I like to use when I have been outside playing all day.  It helps to heal my skin quickly, and smells great!

5 drops frankincense oil
5 drops sandalwood oil
5 drops lavender oil
1 teaspoon witch hazel
2 ounces water

Combine all the ingredients into a spray bottle.  Shake well before every use.  Lightly spray the affected area and allow to air dry.  Repeat 3 times daily.  Store in a cool area for up to 6 months.

Ayurvedic Treatment
Ayurveda medicine is the oldest known form of medicine on Earth.  It has over 5000 years of documented use.  The treatments are very simple, down to Earth, and use common household ingredients.  Try this sunburn remedy for your pain relief and healing.

1 cucumber
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Peel and smash the cucumber into paste.  Discard peels.  With a whisk, mix the lemon juice into the pureed cucumber.  Apply past to the sunburn and leave on as long as possible, or until it dries and flakes off.  Reapply every morning.  Discard any remainder.

Home Remedies
This type of remedy has been passed down from generation to generation.  Try this easy to use treatment to turn that red to tan!  These household products can be used to bring relief instantly and effectively.  Use any or all of these various treatments for healing.

1 cup milk
or
1/4 cup aloe vera
or
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
or
2 tablespoons baking soda

You can apply the milk and the aloe vera directly to the skin and let dry on skin.  The soothing, healing effect is immediate.  You can add the apple cider vinegar or the baking soda to a cool bath, or to a bowl of cool water and apply to the burned area with a cloth.

Herbal Remedy
Herbs have been used for healing for as long as man has walked the Earth. Instead of drinking your mint tea, apply it to your skin!

1 tablespoon peppermint leaves
1 cup water

Bring the water to a boil and remove from heat.  Add the peppermint leaves and cover.  Allow to steep for 10 minutes.  Remove lid and cool completely.  A couple of ice cubes may be added to speed up cooling process.  When completely cooled, dip soft cloth into the mixture and lay on areas sunburned.  Allow to air dry.  Repeat 3 times daily.  Peppermint is anti-inflammatory and will speed up healing quickly.

That's It
So These types of recipes are what we turn to in our family for minor complaints and ailments.  You can treat a wide variety of concerns in your own home, easily and affordably with household products.  I love making my own home remedies, and I also make them for everyone that comes by.

Last night I was told that I was known as the "witch of Saltillo!"  I said, "I'm not a witch! I love Jesus!" And felt very defensive.  But I thought about it and, well, I guess to people who don't ever use home remedies, it may seem like some sort of magic, spells or potions.  But seriously, when did a rub of lavender and tea tree for a burn ever magically heal anyone? It's not magic, sorcery or incantations.  It's just science.  But if everyone here thinks I'm a powerful witch, lol, then don't mess with me!  I might turn you into one of those bales of hay!

I am working on a book just like this page.  It has several types of recipes for each complaint.  It's my biggest project to date.  Very interesting to work on.  I am in love with it.

Much healing to you,
vannoy

BUGS!!! HATE 'EM OR HATE 'EM? OR, DO YOU HATE THEM?

HOMEMADE INSECT REPELLANT

I'm sitting here typing, looking out my window, and there are so many bugs flying around.  I don't even know what they are!  Some kind of flies or termites?  I hate them and I want them all to die.  Here are a few recipes I am going to use today to get rid of those PESKS.  Essential oils have worked for thousands of years before we ever had any cans of chemicals to go buy.
MOTH

OK, so if the truth be known...there are a few bugs i adore, such as the above moth that was resting on my wall.  I love butterflies, honeybees and cute caterpillars.  But I have to get rid of the biting, itchy, crawly bugs and spiders when I can.  Using citronella candles works pretty well, as does placing a cotton ball of peppermint in the window.

You can make a spray by following the following recipe and just use whichever essential oil takes care of whatever insect problem you have.  The spray is safe to use on yourself, your furniture and your hair or in the air...however you want to use it!

SUPPLIES

The supplies you need include: spray bottle, water, witch hazel, essential oil.
Witch hazel is about $1 a bottle at Walmart.  It's a cheap preservative to keep your spray fresh for longer.  It comes from the witch hazel tree and is a natural ingredient.  I like to use witch hazel in all of my sprays for longevity.

I use a 2 ounce or a 4 ounce bottle when making my insect repellants.  Just put 20-40 drops of essential oil in the bottle, 1 teaspoon of witch hazel and fill with water.  You do have to shake it overtime you use it, because the oils and the water will separate.

ESSENTAIL OILS
The oils I use vary, and are dependent on which type of bug I am trying to get rid of.  Here is a list of oils you can use, or you can mix them, like I do.

Ants: peppermint & rosemary oils
Flies: peppermint, rosemary and lavender oils
Scorpions: basil oil
Mosquitoes: lavender, lemongrass and peppermint oils

Have fun with your blending and mixing!  Maybe eventually, we can all work together and eradicate bugs altogether!  lol
much love and healing to you,
vannoy

Afternoons are the best

So this afternoon, as in all afternoons, mom and I shall meet in her backyard at 3:50 for the daily chicken release.  I received an automatic door opener as a gift.  It's amazing.  It also automatically closes each night.  We take our drinks, and snacks and sit by the pond and wait for the door to open.  As we sit for a few minutes, the school bus pulls up and the boys run to my house, grab a snack, cross the bridge and wait about 1 minute for the door to open.

                                                                    FREEDOM DOOR

The hens fight to get out of the door and run to freedom.  The kids love this ritual, mom loves this ritual and I am fanatical about never missing the grand opening of the door.  The boys play, mom marvels at the things they say (yesterday, she just shook her head and said "what's wrong with that boy?"  Cale had been on a roll!  It has got to be the best part of my day.  Here is a days worth of eggs:

TODAY'S EGGS

If anyone in the Saltillo area ever, EVER needs any eggs, come on by.  They are FREE!

ESSENTIAL OILS I HAVE USED TODAY
On a more serious note, my husband has a bad case of congestion.  I doused him with sesame oil mixed with EUCALYPTUS AND THYME.  He will be feeling and breathing better in no time.  In order to complete all of the computer work I had to do today, I ran a diffuser of sweet orange and pink grapefruit!  These two in combination always give me so much energy and focus.  I got a lot done.

OMG!  It's almost time for the door to open.  If you ever need me, I am unavailable from 3:45 pm - 4:45 pm.  Me and the family are having a session under the old hackberry tree by the chicken coop.  Come and join us anytime.  I mean that.
much healing to you,

STUPID POLLEN!!!

Good things coming this way.  Got a book coming out in July, got a feature in July/August issue of HEALTH magazine, Just got a new Publicist.  I just made a new author page.  www.amazon.com/author/vannoyfite  This is crazy!  How did this all happen?  Life is GOOD!

I'm trying to get over a stuffy nose brought on by all this crazy pollen in the air.  It is making my car yellow, my patio furniture dirty and my nose stuffed up.  I may not be able to help you clean your furniture or your car, but I can help you to un-stuff your nose.

Just add the following essential oils to your diffuser and you will be breathing great in no time! I'm breathing it right now!  aaahhhh....
4 drops peppermint
3 drops eucalyptus
3 drops grapefruit
water

I told myself that I was going to just sit in front of the TV all day and watch reality TV while stuffing myself with Fritos.  But sadly, it hasn't turned out that way.  I wanted to get a "Roll-a-dex," you remember, the kind that you put phone numbers into?  Well, after a trip to Walmart and one to staples, I find out that they don't make them anymore. WHAT? Everybody keeps their stuff on the computer now.  Well, I don't.  I really, really want one.  UGH! So I have been in the attic, to stores, to my mom's junk room, everywhere I can think of looking for one.  No luck.  So I'm writing all my email info into a book.  A real book that I can touch.  And I don't have to have a password to open my book.  I just put my fingers in the pages and spread apart.  true love.
Excited about FTWD tonight!  Such great family time.  lol
love forever,
