SUNDAY IN SALTILLO (or, horror in my backyard!)

The Beaver-Seal

So I am wandering outside, looking at the sunrise, and I stroll over the bridge at the pond. I see something so horrifying, I can only gasp in shock!!!!

A BIG creature.  The size of a medium dog.  It has the face of a seal.  It stares at me while doing a backstroke down the pool.  I am standing there in my nightie with my mouth hanging open...frozen!  I spend a great deal of time looking at my pond and have never seen a seal-faced animal flipping and swimming and confidently taking a water-stroll up and down my pond.  WTF?

I stand and stare at him, for 10 minutes, and his amazing adeptness and slinkiness with swim capabilities.  He just stares back at me while contorting his body into different swimming positions.  He's proud of his abilities.  He wants me to see what all he can do.  Backstroke, dive, head stand, butterfly stroke.  He is guru of them all.

Being of the "digital age" I run in the house and get my camera. When I get back outside, he is no longer showing his body and mastery of the water.  He is far at the end of the pond, with only his face peeking out.  He takes a dive...gone!  Dang.

I run in the house screaming at my husband, "There's a beaver-seal in our pool!"  He says, "It's an otter."  He is not excited in the least.  The most amazing natural encounter I've ever had, and he just wants his coffee.  I looked it up.  The beaver-seal will eat all my fish.  Dang.  The circle of life.

I did not take this pic.  But you can see exactly why I confused him with a beaver-seal.  The similarities are astounding!

The Rest of the Day

I am going to spend today cooking beans, cornbread and bar-b-que.  I am going to write some on the two books I turned in to my agent.  I have chapters I need to add, and today is the day!  How lucky am I?  I get to spend this entire day doing whatever I want.  Man, life is good!

I have had 2 book signings for Essential Oils for Healing since I last blogged.  One was at the Bookworm Box in Sulphur Springs and the other was at Star Dragonfly Herb Co. in Winnsboro.  Both of them were so much fun and we had a great time.  Thanks to everyone who came to support us.  Any other bookstores or herb shops need an author?  I'm free!  Call me... I find I LOVE doing this.

DEPRESSION SUCKS!

THE SUCKINESS OF HAVING A FAMILY MEMBER WITH DEPRESSION:

We do what we can to keep happy and positive

No one wants it, or needs it, so depression, be gone from my life!  If only it was that easy to rid yourself of depression.  Well, it can be!  Depression has been a huge factor in many of my family member's lives.  Some practically live for their medications and pharmaceuticals.  Others take a more active and holistic approach by incorporating herbal teas, yoga, essential oils and home remedies into their lives.  It's easy looking in from the outside and to tell the person to just "get happy!"  But when you are yourself suffering from a bout of depression (and we all have...) you understand that it's just not that easy.  In fact, it's almost impossible.

WHICH OILS WORK BEST?

Essential oils have been helping people change the thought processes in their brains for thousands of years.  It seems we in the West are just now catching up.  Here is a recipe that uses some of the essential oils that work on ending depression.  Put some of these essential oils in the bath.  Mix some with olive oil and rub it on your feet.  Mix some essential oils with cornstarch and make a powder for your sheets and pillow cases.  Add a few drops to your laundry.  Tons of recipes are available that show you how to use the following antidepressant containing oils:

vetiver, neroli, petitgrain, sandalwood, yang-ylang, bergamot, orange, clary sage, cypress, cedar wood, geranium, rose (I wish I could afford this one!!!), lemon, marjoram, frankincense, lime, melissa (this one too!!!!), tea tree, patchouli, wild orange, rosemary, basil, cinnamon and all spice essential oils.

I will show you how easy it is to incorporate any of these oils you want into a spray to be used for depression, sadness, grief or sorrow.  These uplifting oils have the properties you need to GET HAPPY!

2 of nature's depression lifters: bergamot and basil

RECIPE FOR DEPRESSION SPRAY

It may not seem possible that a spray can take away your depression, but this recipe has helped many people move on to a fuller and happier lifestyle.  This blend has also made aromatherapy believers out of quite a few skeptics.  This spray is chock full of nervine, antidepressant, euphoric and sedative therapeutic properties.  Spray this on your body, in your office, car, home, etc.  Use it around Mr. Negativity and watch his mood turn around!  It's easy and keeps for months.

Yield: 2 Ounces

2 drops neroli oil
2 drops patchouli oil
2 drops basil oil
2 drops bergamot oil
2 drops vitamin E oil
1 teaspoon witch hazel
2 ounces water

Combine ingredients into a spray bottle (or a roll-on bottle for personal usage), shake well before each use.  Spray area desired, or spray on self, laundry, bed or a multitude of areas where you or others can come into contact with the aromas.  Store remainder in a spray bottle with a tight fitting lid in a cool, dark area for up to 3 months.

What's Your Secret Weapon Giveaway

Secret Weapon: Lemongrass

This is my secret weapon: Lemongrass.  I an in love with this essential oil.  I would eat it and wear it as clothing if I could.  I would marry lemongrass if it would have me.

Lemongrass grows easily in Texas, if watered enough.  Just walking up to my lemongrass, pulling a leaf, inhaling its scent and rubbing it on my body is a surreal experience.  Lemongrass not only smells heavenly, but it has so many therapeutic properties:
Antioxidant, stomachic, sedative, fever reducer, anti-inflammatory, nervine and immune booster, as well as many other properties.

Knowing my personality, as a flighty, ADHD, type A personality, it would only be natural that someone like me loves the smell of lemongrass.  But I doused myself in it for 2 years before realizing that the nervine and sedative properties in lemongrass are exactly what my body needed to calm down and focus.  I always felt like I couldn't concentrate enough to write, until I put on my little roll-on bottle of lemongrass and grape seed oil.

It is so funny how when using essential oils, we are drawn to the properties that we need.  It's almost like when you are pregnant and you start craving a certain food, it's because those are the nutritional needs your body instinctually knows it needs.  So when you find yourself using an essential oil almost exclusively, look up those properties.  You will probably find something in that particular oil that is helping you without you even knowing it!

Nature's Gift Lemongrass

Lemongrass oil not only makes me feel great, it has a tummy soother component that quickly can dispel feelings of nausea. This rub recipe, directly from my book, Essential Oils for Healing, is an easy remedy and can be made ahead of time and stored for when needed.  This is a sure bet for an item in your medicine cabinet or to include in your first aid kit.

Tummy Rub

2 drops peppermint oil
2 drops clary sage oil
2 drops lemongrass oil
1 ounce carrier oil

In a small container, drip the essential oils.  Pour in the carrier oil and swirl to mix the oils.  Rub the abdomen area lightly with your fingertips or a soft cloth to ensure that the essential oils are distributed over the skin.  You can also pour it into a roll-on bottle and roll onto the desired area.  Be sure not to get any into the eyes, mucus membranes or sensitive areas.  Store unused portion in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, in a cool, dark area, for up to 3 months.

So the next time you can't focus, have a fever, feel nauseas or just plain need a great smelling oil to diffuse, use lemongrass.  I equate lemongrass with the word "peace."  Peaceful soul, peaceful health, and peaceful energy.
